Selichot: Seriously Seeking the Divine During the Month of Elul | JOCS + Ally Circle
In the month before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Jewish community holds a season of introspection. Our tradition knows that all humans make mistakes - so we give ourselves a whole month and ten days, including two major holidays, to reflect on our journeys to act kindly, ethically, and lovingly towards each other, ourselves, and The Holy one.
Come start Elul, the month of return, by studying the poetic words of the Selichot service. Rabbi Sass will teach about the history and customs of Selichot, highlighting the different practices among Ashkenazi and Sefardi-Mizrachi communities. We'll study some of Selichot's inspirational texts, and then conclude by listening to some traditional Selichot music, with time for reflective writing.
