Hello from Ammud’s New Executive Director

Dear Ammud Community,

My name is Alexandra Corwin, and it is with humility, joy, and enthusiasm I introduce myself as the incoming Executive Director of Ammud: The Jews of Color Torah Academy.

As I move into this role, I’m floored with an appreciation for the labor of love of those who have come before me. The building of Ammud is the work of so many people who poured their energy and focus into creating a unique organization that provides Jewish learning for Jews of Color by Jews of Color.

I first learned about Ammud as a Lomdim seminar class participant. It was there where I witnessed Ammud’s transformational impact. I quickly learned that Ammud was a place for me, where I could show up with all my identities at the door.

I’ve had a lifetime of making sense of my beautiful and layered identities. Growing up as a Jewish girl, a Latina girl, and a girl with Ashkenazi and Indigenous Quechua heritage, I’ve had to grapple with my identities being challenged at the door.

These experiences created a deep resiliency and fire within me that shaped my professional path to cultivate joyous Jewish communities where every single Jew feels welcomed, loved, and has the resources to study the depths of Torah. My experiences as a community organizer, Jewish education director, leadership coach, rabbinical school teacher, entrepreneur, curriculum designer, and adult education specialist anchor what I have to offer Ammud.

May we all work together towards a world where our sacred humanity and the fullness of our experiences are nurtured and universally accepted as valuable assets. Our classes, community, and rabbinic pastoral care, all center Jewish education for Jews of Color by Jews of Color. We know that spaces where Jews of Color can access Jewish education will contribute to building a beautiful and vibrant Jewish future for all.

What Ammud provides Jews of Color is truly one-of-a-kind, and I’m excited to work in partnership as we enter an exciting new chapter.

With warmth,

Alexandra Corwin
